Tracking Illegitimate Teaching Materials

I was responsible for searching 'academic content' sites and compiling spreadsheets of course files dishonestly uploaded to these sites.

This project involved tracking SFU instructor content posted without their permission to "tutoring" sites like CourseHero. Given a list of course numbers, I was responsible for searching these sites and compiling a spreadsheet of course files uploaded to the sites. This contributed to the Copyright Office's ability to submit a takedown request on behalf of instructors or departments, to have the content removed from the sites.

While these excel files cannot be shared for privacy reasons, the following skills I have developed and honed during this experience include:

  • speed of data entry
  • search strategy skills (keywords, power searching, etc.)
  • Microsoft Excel
  • data organization
